Peer Academic Advisors (PAAs) are students trained by the Office of Academic Advising — the brainchild of our very own Brian Gibson — in the intricacies of the Rice system. Their knowledge of the Rice academic system, especially surrounding degree requirements and pretty much anything having to do with the Registrar, stretches beyond the average student. If you’ve got a question about something in the General Announcements, or just what the General Announcements are, these are good people to talk to…
Maram Salaheldin
Martel Head PAA
mts1@rice.edu
Having lived in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and now Martel, Maram is well-equipped for the job of PAA. But fear not! Even with all of her worldliness, Maram has really learned her way around here. She knows all kinds of useful information about academic advising, graduation requirements, and she knows just who to ask if she doesn’t have the answer herself. Don’t think you have any specific academic inquiries for her? No worries- go ahead and just say hi anyway. You’d be surprised what useful information you could accidentally learn!
Bo Shi
Martel Head PAA
bs6@rice.edu
Bo is a third year Political Science student who hopes to attend Law School after graduation. He knows the academic system at Rice University well, and can tell you the do’s and don’t’s of everything from course selection to pass/fail to making the best grade in any class. If you have a question about academics at Rice and can’t find it in the GA, Bo will probably be able to answer it for you, and if he can’t, he’ll find someone who can. In his spare time, Bo enjoys playing and watching tennis, reading popular fiction, and working out.
