Parliament is the governing body of Martel College. It is composed entirely of students at Martel, and operates with an independent budget. (The Masters and RAs serve as advisors to the Executive Council, and attend many Parliament meetings, but do not hold a vote.) All members of Parliament are elected in the Spring semester (for the upcoming academic year), with the exception of the Parliamentarian, who is an appointed official.
Parliament is governed by the rules laid out in the Martel Constitution and By-Laws.
The Executive Council
The Executive Council is composed of the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Treasurer and Secretary. They meet on a weekly basis and are responsible for setting the budget and approving appointments, among other duties.
Class Representatives
The majority of Parliament is composed of the Class Reps. Each of the four classes elects four representatives to serve on Parliament. Rising Class Reps are elected in the Spring semester and the freshman class elects their representatives in the Fall when they arrive.
Non-voting Members
These members do not hold a vote in Parliament, but serve other functions at Martel (the Parliamentarian and Chief Justice) or serve as representatives of Martel to various campus wide organizations.
